When choosing a refrigeration compressor, it is necessary to consider many factors such as the design requirements of the cold storage, the use environment and the cooling load. The following are the key factors to consider when choosing a refrigeration compressor:
1. Temperature requirements for cold storage
- High temperature cold storage (-5°C to 5°C) : usually used for the preservation of vegetables and fruits, medium temperature compressor can be selected.
- Medium temperature cold storage (-18°C to -25°C) : used for freezing food, meat, etc., requiring medium or low temperature compressors.
- Low temperature cold storage (below -25°C) : for ice cream, seafood, etc., need to choose a low temperature compressor.
2. Cooling load calculation
- The cooling capacity of the cold storage is the basis for selecting the compressor, and the cooling load needs to be calculated in detail according to the volume of the cold storage, insulation materials, the frequency of import and shipment, the type of goods in the storage and the stacking density. Usually the refrigeration engineer will calculate the cooling capacity (expressed in kilowatts kW or horsepower HP) required by the cold storage based on these parameters.
3. Type of refrigerant
- Different compressors adapt to different refrigerants. Common refrigerants are R134a, R404A, R507A, R717 (ammonia), etc. When selecting a compressor, ensure that it is compatible with the refrigerant used.
- Environmental requirements: When choosing refrigerants, you also need to consider environmental regulations, and some refrigerants may be limited.
4. Type of compressor
- Piston compressor: suitable for small and medium-sized cold storage, with better durability and high refrigeration efficiency.
- Screw compressor: Suitable for medium and large cold storage, especially in the case of continuous operation, screw compressor efficiency and reliability is higher.
Scroll compressors: Usually used in small cold storage and precision refrigeration applications, low noise and smooth operation.
5. Energy Efficiency Ratio (COP)
- COP (Coefficient of Performance) : It is an important indicator to measure the energy efficiency of refrigeration equipment. The higher the COP, the higher the energy efficiency of the compressor, that is, the less energy consumed for the same cooling capacity.
Seasonal Performance Factor (SEER) : For areas with significant seasonal changes, the SEER value is also important to reflect the energy efficiency of the compressor in different seasons.
6. Compressor brand and after-sales service
- It is important to choose a brand with a good reputation and reliable after-sales service, because refrigeration compressors are the core components of cold storage systems and need to be supported in time when problems occur.
- Common brands include Bitzer (Bitzer), Copeland (Valley wheel), Danfoss (Danfoss), Carrier, etc.
7. Run the environment
- Ambient temperature: When selecting the compressor, you also need to consider the installation environment of the cold storage, such as the ambient temperature. For high temperature environments, select a compressor that is suitable for a wide temperature range.
- Power requirements: Ensure that the power requirements of the compressor match the onsite conditions (such as voltage and frequency).
8. Noise requirements
- For occasions with high noise requirements, such as commercial or residential areas, choose a compressor with lower noise.
9. Maintenance convenience
- The compressor should be designed to facilitate routine maintenance and repair. Compressors with simple construction and easy replacement of parts reduce downtime and lower maintenance costs.
Conclusion:
The selection of refrigeration compressors should be based on the specific application needs of the cold storage, taking into account factors such as cooling load, refrigerant type, energy efficiency, brand, operating environment and maintenance needs. It is recommended to communicate with the refrigeration equipment supplier or engineer during selection to ensure that the compressor selected can meet the performance requirements of the system and has good reliability.
