When designing and building cold storage, several key parameters need to be considered to ensure that the cold storage can operate efficiently and meet the needs of the storage items. The following are the main parameters to be considered in cold storage design:

1. Temperature requirements

- Refrigerated temperature: usually between 0°C and 5°C for storing fresh food, vegetables and fruits.

- Freezing temperature: Generally between -18°C and -25°C for storing frozen food, meat and seafood.

- Ultra-low temperature: Some special applications may require lower temperatures, such as below -60°C, for the storage of pharmaceuticals or biological products.

2. Humidity control

- The relative humidity in the cold storage should be controlled between 85% and 90% to prevent food from drying or frosting.

- Humidity needs to be adjusted according to the type of storage items, such as fruits and vegetables usually require higher humidity.

3. Insulation material

Polyurethane plate (PU) : usually used for cold storage walls and roof insulation material, the thickness is generally 100-150mm.

Thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of the insulation material should be between 0.022-0.028W /m·K to ensure good thermal insulation effect.

4. Cold storage structure

- Wall thickness: Depending on the difference between the external ambient temperature and the internal temperature of the cold storage, the wall thickness is usually between 100-150mm.

- Floor design: The floor should be waterproof, anti-slip and anti-freeze properties, and usually need to have a thermal insulation and moisture barrier.

5. Refrigeration system

- Refrigerant type: Common refrigerants include R134a, R404A, R717 (ammonia), etc. The selection should be based on the temperature requirements and environmental regulations of the cold storage.

Refrigeration capacity: The power of the refrigeration unit should be calculated according to the volume of the cold storage, temperature requirements and expected load, usually in kW.

6. Ventilation system

- Air circulation: Maintain the circulation of air in the warehouse to avoid cold air retention and uneven temperature.

- The number of air exchange: Generally, the air exchange rate should be maintained 6-8 times per hour, and the specific value is determined according to the size and use of the cold storage.

7. Door design

- Cold storage door: Usually use a thickness of 80-120mm insulation door, equipped with a good seal to reduce the loss of cold.

- Automatic closing device: The cold storage door should be equipped with an automatic closing device to avoid temperature fluctuations.

8. Lighting system

- Low temperature lighting: Lighting equipment that can work normally at low temperatures, such as LED lights, should be used to ensure low energy consumption and long life.

9. Monitoring and alarm system

- Temperature monitoring: Install temperature sensors and data loggers to monitor the temperature in the cold storage in real time and send an alarm when the temperature exceeds.

- Remote monitoring: If conditions exist, you can consider installing a remote monitoring system to check the operating status of the cold storage at any time.

10. Electrical system

- Power load: The power supply should be configured according to the power requirements of all devices to ensure reliability and stability.

- Backup power supply: In case of power failure or other power failures, you are advised to configure a backup generator set.
